What kind of transmission fluid do I put in a 1990 Pontiac Bonneville?

Also, what kind of sealant would you put on the fluid pan gasket?

Dexron

RTV Silicone.

Here’s the key to getting RTV to not leak – leave the transmission empty for 24 hours after installation. Works great.

Dexron IV.

RTV is the last thing I would use. It breaks down in oil. Any little buggers on the inside will come loose and ruin your transmission.

I just replaced mine and the kit said to use NO sealant.

DO NOT PUT RTV SILICON IN YOUR TRANNY YOU WILL RUIN IT.
that car calls for dextron 2e which has been discontinued now for about 12 years. how ever you can put in dextron 3 or dectron 4 which will work better than 2e. you can get a new pain gasket for that tranny when you go to the parts store just ask for a gasket for a 90 bonneville that car should have the 4T60 tranny that tranny is also called the 440T4. the gasket will also come with a new filter which should also be replaced. you have to pull the old filter out to remove it. its a pain sometimes. or you can just go and have the tranny fluid changed at a shop which will only cost you about $60 which is about what you would spend to change it your self.
